For Barajas the route skirts Madrid on the M-40 or M-50, and the conventional train via El Escorial stops in Madrid, not at the airport.

- Arévalo sits beside the A-6, which runs down towards Madrid via Villacastín and the Guadarrama tunnel without going through the city of Ávila. For Barajas the route continues from the A-6 onto the M-40 or M-50.
- Valle del Tiétar
- From the Tiétar valley nobody goes up to Ávila to reach Madrid: the valley road continues towards San Martín de Valdeiglesias and enters Madrid from the south-west, or drivers drop down to the A-5 through Toledo province. For Barajas the route crosses Madrid on the M-40 or M-50.
