Talavera de la Reina is the nearest large town to the Tiétar valley, down the N-502. Many residents of Arenas and Candeleda go there for shopping, errands or to catch the train to Madrid or Extremadura.

On arrival: Talavera y La Jara

Talavera de la Reina is the province's second city and the hub of a wide area stretching to the Sierra de San Vicente and La Jara. It has its own hospital and a conventional railway station but no high-speed rail, so the AVE means going to Toledo or Madrid, as do most specialist appointments.

Tip: If you are going to Ávila's old town, name the gate in the wall nearest your destination: traffic inside is restricted and drop-off happens at the entrance.
