Leaving from Valle del Tiétar

The Tiétar valley runs along the southern face of Gredos, from Sotillo de la Adrada through Arenas de San Pedro to Candeleda, with villages among chestnuts, pines and orchards and many Madrid weekend homes. It is a long way from the city of Ávila over the mountains, so many residents live their lives more towards Madrid and Talavera.

Which way it goes

From the Tiétar valley nobody goes up to Ávila to reach Madrid: the valley road continues towards San Martín de Valdeiglesias and enters Madrid from the south-west, or drivers drop down to the A-5 through Toledo province. For Barajas the route crosses Madrid on the M-40 or M-50.

From Ávila province there is no way to reach Barajas without changing in Madrid, and the first trains do not arrive in time for the earliest flights. From the Tiétar valley there is no train at all: a car is the only practical option.

When demand peaks

• Snow on the passes (December to March): Snow and ice affect the Pico pass, the Gredos crossings and the Alto del León, and Ávila, at over a thousand metres, has very cold mornings. In winter, trips across the mountains need more margin.

Tip: To reach the Plataforma de Gredos at a weekend, set off early: the car park fills fast, and booking the return as well avoids being left up there without a car.

Airport pickup

For arrivals, the driver waits in the terminal with a name sign and helps with your luggage. We track the flight number, so a delay costs nothing extra within the terminal’s complimentary waiting time.

For early flights

We recommend leaving Sotillo de la Adrada at least 113 minutes before you want to be at the check-in desk. We operate through the night, always with an advance booking.
